No you'll not be able to watch certain videos. Youtube determines your ip address by the internet connection, not you computer/laptop. There are several ways to bypass it, but none I can post here

Can anyone point me in the direction of a great laptop for my husband to take to Iraq

Can anyone point me in the direction of a great laptop for my husband to take to Iraq?
My husband deploys this summer and we are in search of a laptop to send with him. A few things we are looking for we have found on some and then others we have no clue. Did some internet searches and it is just all getting tangled up. Some options we would like: Built in webcam Wireless internet 14''-17'' screen Great video card CD+ DVD ROM Case to be included Battery to be included Shipping to an APO address (we are in Germany right now) Great Great prices between $500.00-$1,000.00(U.S.) He will use it for basic communication with friends and family online, such as email and instant messengers. Digital picture uploading and storage. Gaming and gaming... Any help would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your best bet would be to go with the Dell XPS M1210. It is a little more that your price but it is a great computer. Small and lite but powerfull. And it has a built in web cam but I think that is extra. Also all the Dell XPS phone support is handled in the US and Cananda. No Indian tech support. You can also find the XPS M1210 on the Dell Outlet. The outlet had refurb and ordered new but never opened systems. Here is the link to the outlet. http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh
2 :
Go to BESTBUY.com and look at the models they offer
3 :
If you want durability...ie: withstand shock and abbuse...Panasonic Toughbooks..but they are higher in price range...I would check out Dell...they have alot of different models and price ranges

What should I get for Christmas (between these 2 items)

What should I get for Christmas (between these 2 items)?
Well my dad is in the Army and in May our whole family is moving to Germany for 3 years. The thing is there is no school buses. And it's legal there (at 14) to drive a Moped. It's like a motorcycle/portable scooter in one. My other choice is a laptop, my old desktop is ANCIENT and my printer is practically dieing. So I can't decide between getting the Moped or Laptop. What one do you think is the best?

Moped
3 :
That is a really tough choice! But it's cheaper to buy a laptop than it is a moped so ask for that :P Especially if you already have a computer. Yes, it's slow but it's something!
4 :
Moped!! You can live with a old computer and printer,,as long as you have internet it's ok... You'll get a new one soon..
5 :
I know that most people are saying moped probably because its really cool and all and here in the U.S. 14 year old don't get to drive mopeds. You seem pretty annoyed with your computer too, though. If I were you, I'd get a moped because its awesome. Although you really need a laptop, you can probably save up for one. Plus, you want to make this a good three years in Germany so I would have fun and ride around on your moped. I hope this helps! P.S. How are you going to communicate with the people there

Have you ever been on a study abroad

Have you ever been on a study abroad?
Particularly in Germany, but anywhere will do. I'm going on a study abroad program to Cologne, Germany with my university in July. I will be spending a month there. Housing and the courses are paid for but I will need money for food and transportation. Is there anything that I should expect? How much money should I bring? What should I pack? Should I bring my laptop? Tell me about your experiences.
Studying Abroad - 4 Answers

Take as little as possible in the way of luggage and possessions -- you'll want to buy clothes and things there! Make sure you take lots of pictures of home -- people will be curious! But you can easily do that on a CD, jump drive or your computer. Make sure you take a camera (and USE IT!). For lots more tips, check out http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/... Viel Gluck! PS Don't miss out on climbing the steeple!
2 :
Yes, bring your laptop. Yes, go! You will probably look back on it as either the greatest experience of your life (or one of the top few, anyway) or the doorway through which you began some of the greatest adventures of your life. Köln is beautiful! I only spent about half a day there, but it was pretty! Can't help you with how much money you'll want, but if it's possible, take a credit card (and be VERY careful not to lose it) because the exchange is so much easier that way (and a bit less expensive). If you have a choice, find one that only charges 1% transaction fee for the exchange. Pack: at least one sweater. Northern Europe was Really quite chilly when I was there, even in the summertime. I lived in Spain for a whole year, my junior year of University. I travelled on the trains with a backpack and slept in Youth Hostels, when I couldn't make it an overnight train trip, for a total of three and a half months during that year. I had some of the best adventures of my life that year, and will never forget it! I wouldn't trade the experiences I had for anything in the world. For so many people, University is the only time you can make to make such a trip, and the experiences will stay with you forever! Have a blast!
3 :
Yes. Madrid and it was the best experience of my life...thus far. Best advice: carry a COPY of your passport my sis had hers stolen! Also, do not set your purse down for a minute bc they have so many thiefs. My purse was stolen while there and big fiasco getting new credit cards shipped internationally.
4 :
Hey! I'm currently spending a year studying in Berlin and have visited Cologne. I know exactly what you're going through. You'll be surprised how many people speak English in Cologne, so don't worry about communication problems. In fact they'll probably be more than happy to practice their English! For the month, depending on your lifestyle, but if it's anything like a student you'll probably need around 500 euros, just to be on the safe side. Transport is really cheap in Germany and almost always on time. I'd definitely take your laptop as there are plenty of places you can use WiFi in Cologne. Plus it's always good to look online for things to do in the city instead of paying for magazines. I'd pack just the essentials-just in case you need to carry your luggage around. Aaaand all i can say is have a brilliant time-Cologne is an incredible city, so enjoy yourself

Installing a european socket to an electrical system

Installing a european socket to an electrical system.?
I am living in the US, but used to live in Germany. I have a bunch of stuff like phone chargers, laptop chargers, and a couple small appliance that I brought over with me and that I have been using with an adaptor. It might be easier if I just had one of two of the european format power outlets around the house. I was wondering if it would be possible to install one or two european format sockets and hook them up so that they will output the 240V? Thanks!
Maintenance & Repairs - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
well you could do that but you would have to rewire the house and that could get expensive . us homes are only wire for 110V you would be better off buing new appliances
2 :
Any kitchen split receptacle could be adapted to supply 220V because the two sides of the receptacle are supplied from different legs of the AC supply. If you remove the cover and take out the receptacle, you should see one black, one red wire on one side of receptacle and a white wire (neutral) on the other side. Using the blk and red wires will supply 220V AC. The white wire (neutral) can be capped off. If the receptacle has only a black wire (no red), then it is not a split receptacle and will supply only 110V AC. Note: It may be a good idea to check with your local electrical inspector to see if this is legal in your area. (Please note that in Canada, ALL kitchen receptacles are required to be split receptacles.) A qualified electrician could probably mount the appropriate box right next to an existing split receptacle, thereby keeping the existing receptacle

Laptop not recognizing my wireless network

Laptop not recognizing my wireless network?
I went to germany and I was able to connect to my boyfriend's internet. I bring the laptop back to my mother's house, and it won't recongize my wireless network I had set up. I personally had set up her wireless network so I know there is no password, so what's the deal? It's frustrating because it's picking up everyone else's wireless networks but not my own. What is going on? I tried everything from restarting the both the modem AND the wireless router, and even my laptop. The router I am using is the Linksys wireless-g 2.4 GHz. Please help me!
Computer Networking - 0 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You said restarting, not resetting. Keep that as a final option, but you need to see if the wireless network is being found under " search fo all available networks ". If so, you should be able to try to connect, get to the network first, then try the Internet... If you can't see it, then maybe the router is not broadcasting the SSID, and that will need to be changed by connecting to the router config ( usually HTML accessible ). Try to get into the router with Ethernet cable too, might give clues to if its working or not... Lastly, you might need to reset the router and do another set up. Good luck

You might just only have to buy a plug converter. Read the labels on he chargers and stuff and see what voltage it accepts. Most chargers will accept up to 240 (the voltage in germany) and you will only need to get a plug converter.
2 :
The laptop and camera should only need a plug adapter. the hair straightener may need a voltage convert. read the back of your computer and charger, they should say 120-240 volts. if an item says 110 only then you need a voltage converter

All you need is a plug adaptor - your laptop power supply will work with either US or European voltages and frequencies. You want the one that's good in most of Europe - two round prongs to connect to the wall outlet. http://www.goodmans.net/item.asp?n=CO-PLUGB&k=CO-PLUGB&sc=FRGL

Could anyone help me with buying a laptop? Which of the brands IBM, FUJITSU SIEMENS and DELL are better?
Is realy FUJITSU SIEMENS made in Grmany? What about the parts? Germany or somewhere else? Help me with the best brand.
Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Part One of your question. Fujitsu Siemens computers were made in Germany. However beginning in 2009 Siemens quit the partnership. Fujitsu is now on its own which is not so terrible. Pat Two. Whatever you do, stay away from DELL computers!! I got a DELL Vostro 1510 and my battery exhausted after 4 weeks; in the beginning the battery lasted for 3 hours, now it gives me 40 "good" minutes of portability.
2 :
IBM / Lenovo is one of the best brands out there. You pay with the extra price.
3 :
Dell would be my choice. I have a Dell Vostro that is over a year old with no problems. Another good choice would be an HP. IBM no longer makes laptops. They have been out of the PC business for about 5 years.
4 :
To be honest, most computers use the same parts and there is not much difference between the various laptop manufacturers. The real key is price, features and customer service. I have owned IBM, Dell, Compaq, and Toshiba laptops. I have rarely had to use service, but the Compaq service was a little lacking when I had a problem with my battery. There actually was nothing wrong with my battery other than the power profile I was using, but Compaq didn't have the replacement battery in stock. They did refer me to an OEM that had the battery for a lower price, so there's something to be said for that. IBM service used to be great, but I haven't used them since they split off Lenovo. All the laptops worked fine but I thought the Toshiba offered the best price performance ratio. Sony VAIOs are nice, but you'll pay extra for them, as you will for Fujitsu. Anyway, if you find the right mix of weight, battery life and features to meet your needs, you'll be happy with any of them. Don't sweat it so much.

Jim W. has the answer, ignore brand, go somewhere where you can lay your hands on them, see the keyboard layout

Do I need to purchase a new laptop, or not?
Hello, I have a Dell Latitude E6400 and I was wondering if I will need to buy a new laptop when I move to Germany, or if it will work there. Can I just buy some sort of converter?
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers

1 :
All you will need is an adapter plug to convert from the American plug to the German plug unless you are living in US Military housing. Your charger is rated 100-240VAC 50 Hz. It is good anywhere in the world.
2 :
No need for a new laptop, a simple wall plug converter kit will likely solve your power needs. If you'd rather not use an adapter, I bet you could call Dell's support number and order a power cable that's made for German outlets.
3 :
A power converter will work. The easiest solution is to just buy a German power adapter

Taiwan is generally considered the home of computer manufacturing. If you have a friend or relative that has access to merchandise from within Taiwan, without having to pay taxes or duties, this is probably your cheapest alternative. Look at the label on the power supply. If it says something like 100 - 240 V, 50/60 Hz for the input specifications, then you're all set and all you need is a plug adapter. It would be rare to find a laptop that can't be used without a voltage converter. I have several laptops here purchased in the US and have never needed more than the plug adapter. Same for the cell phone and camera chargers.

in europa is 220 V , 50/60 A travel : www.anunt-servicii.com/index3.html

Instead of buying a plug adapter, when you come to Germany go to a computer shop and buy a cord that goes from the wall plug (outlet) to the converter. That's what I did when I first moved here several years ago and I've never had a problem

You won't know until you report it to the police. Given the cost of shipping a laptop from Germany to the US (not much) you should be able to recover it if the Polizei cooperate. Germany is a very law and order oriented society so I would not be surprised at all if the German authorities do cooperate with your local police.
2 :
Well you can definitely try but honestly I don't think its worth it. Because amount of money you will spend assuming if it goes that far in first place. Its not wroth it because it will cost you more than 300$ for sure I have send enough items on shipping to know that. But you can try i just don't think its worth the trouble or the money might as well just buy a new 300$ laptop that dose the job

Traveling from US to Germany next year with my HP Pavillon laptop. What do you recommend I get in terms of equipment? Additional battery? Cables? What about connecting to the Internet? What have you done and what products worked well for you? Where did you buy the stuff and how much was it?
Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers

Well first of all, you're definitely going to have to get an outlet adapter. Their outlets are totally different from the ones that we have in the States. So unless you plan on just using your laptop for 3 hours (or however long a battery lasts), I would get one of those. As far as connecting the internet and all that jazz goes, I think your standard wireless card should do, although I'm not sure. I think you can access wireless in internet cafes, and places like those. Good luck and I hope you have fun in Germany!
2 :
Get something to convert the power to your laptop. Also be aware that the manufactureres warrenty is void as soon as you leave the US. Bring a case with padding for protection. Make sure your computer has the basic antivirus/spyware protection. A flash drive is a great tool and small enough to carry everyday (size of a cigerette lighter)
3 :
they have different voltages coming out of the wall. not sure what volts but a converter from us to Europe volts to charge ur laptop. I sure any radio shack will carry it and know what your talking about. as far as everything else i believe its universal
4 :
I took mine to Norway last year and only needed a plug adapter. The power cord for your computer coverts the power for you. Just check the box in the middle of your cord and make sure it says the higher voltage on it. All the newer ones do. Some hotels and Internet Cafes provide Internet connections but it is costly. I'd check into that before I go. Have a great trip!
5 :
Your notebook model is shipped with universal power adapter so you can use it any where in the world. As the wall pin outlet varies from region to region you need to buy wall socket by contacting any retailer after reaching Germany

Try to make an administer account, if possible. Then you can uninstall it. If not, you could always reinstall the OS, or make a bootable CD that allows you to make an administrator account.

I wouldn't suggest that you try to get around any parental controls or blocks that have been installed on your computer, as they were probably put there for a reason and you may end up getting into trouble for trying to do so. Instead, perhaps you should try talking to your grandmother about her removing them. Sorry...

You don't....They were put there for a reason, and if you gain your grandmother's trust and do what you are suppose to do then she will loosen the reigns. The other contributor was correct that the only way to do that is to either hav the administrator password, or to reinstall the OS and I know for a fact that you do not have the backups to do that and you will never figure out the password for the administrator (She's to good at making the most convoluted passwords) Just do what you have to do and like the other contributor said talk to her and see if she'll loosen up the reigns. Do what you have to do and it makes the asking much easier! Also never air your feelings on an open forum like this, you never know who will see it! (Just a friendly suggestion)

Should I take my Laptop to a 30-day European trip to pay my bills and download my camera pictures

Should I take my Laptop to a 30-day European trip to pay my bills and download my camera pictures?
On my trip in October to Germany I want to be able to pay my bills. The travel agent says it would be better to log-in at a cyber cafe instead. I am only taking a back-pack and I would have to carry my computer everywhere. I have also been told by a friend that I should take a removable external hard drive (SanDisk cruzer mini) with enough storage capacity for my pictures. For evenings out I might have to leave the computer in my hotel room, whereas during the day I would take it with me. What do you think?

Good idea in a perfect world without crime. Watch out for crime!! But, it has all of your information on it, so if it's stole, so it your identity and information. I say no.
2 :
That's kind of tough, but I would bring it, it would make paying bills a lot easier, and if you didn't put your pictures on it, you would definitely run out of memory, unless you brought a ton of memory cards. On a 30 day European tour, I think you're going to take a lot of pictures, and I don't think you need to worry about it being stolen in the hotel room, just don't leave out in the open. It depends how much memory is on your laptop, but an external hard drive is probably a good idea

I'm going to be travelling alone to Italy, and Germany. How fun is it

I'm going to be travelling alone to Italy, and Germany. How fun is it?
Hi, I'm thinking of travelling to Germany and Italy in the next 2 weeks. I'm going to Frankfurt, and then going to Venice for 4 days, and than to Rome for 6 days. I know those cities have lots of history and architecture, but for a 23 year old male, should I stay in hostels there ot hotels? I do enjoy company, but am a little worried about theft, as I'm planning on bringing my laptop, and some other electronics. Could you please advise me on where to stay to be safe, and also how fun will the whole experience be. Thanks
Other - Italy - 3 Answers

1 :
Why don't you go with a charter group. It's a lot safer and you will have company to enjoy all you experiences with. I wouldn't want to travel by myself. It's not safe. Have a good time.
2 :
I stayed in Pensione Ottaviano hostel in Rome which is good n cheap, and good location - walking distance to Vatican City and near metro station to other attractions. Places that you go, I think are rather safe. --http://travellerfolio.com
3 :
If you can afford it, I would stay in hotels. I have travelled many times alone in Europe, and have enjoyed hostels, but I far prefer hotels when i could afford it. They tend to be in nicer areas, closer to the main attractions, and lets face it, its better living and always nice not to have to wait for a shower. In Frankfurt, be careful, it almost seems as if it is one big red light district. There are some nice museums, decent shopping and concerts, but it seems to be on the seedy side. If you can, visit Wiesbaden or Mainz, very close to Frankfurt and have great histories and are beautiful, or perhaps Cologne by train, great shopping and beautiful city. As for Venice, it is expensive no matter how you travel there, but well worth it. Don't miss San Marco, basilica di san marco, the damn pigeons, gondola rides, the bridge of sighs, carnival masks and the glass blowing. Beautiful place, even when it is cloudy. Rome is also beautiful, yet very much a regular city with regular problems. There are plenty of hostels and cheap hotels, don't be afraid to get hotels outside the city as the transportation is quick and easy. My suggestion is to start at vatican city very early in the morning, beat the lines. You will spend almost a whole day touring this area, yet well worth it. Don't forget the Colisseum, Tomb of the unknown soldier, the forum and spanish steps. Its good that you will spend some time there, as there is much to see. Im jealous, you will have alot of fun, just be open to walking everywhere, i think it helps you get a good feel for the cities. Also, be friendly, most speak english, but don't be rude about it and the germans and italians are more than willing to help out. Have fun

is there any big German shops where they sell PCs

is there any big German shops where they sell PCs?
What shops are there in Germany like PC world, Dixons etc (big leading companies)? Also, how much does it cost to make a printer and where made? This is for a school project where we have to export goods to Germany and we have to find out all of the financial and business stuff. We are making a laptop printer. So to sum up: where is an electrical store in Germany? How much does it cost to make an average printer? Where? (e.g China) Thanks in advance.

The biggest electronics retailers in Germany are Saturn, Conrad and Mediamarkt. Conrad electronics specializes more in PCs. Many of the department stores like Quelle or Karstadt, Otto or Neckermann will take on a new line of printers if the price is right. They will expect local representation, service channels and quality guarantees. How will you handle warranty service and supplies? Who makes your consumables and where do customers get them. Lots of stuff to consider

Do I have to declare when entering Germany or just returning to the US

Do I have to declare when entering Germany or just returning to the US?
I've only traveled internationally twice, and both times I was very confused about "declaring" but was rushed through customs without really ever doing it properly. Well now I'm traveling to Germany by myself and I can foresee me screwing this up. I'm going to visit people around Christmas so I will be bringing gifts from the US. Do I declare those going in? Or do you only declare when re-entering your home country? I also read that you should register stuff you are taking (like laptop, cell phone, ipod) before leaving the US so that there is proof that you did not buy it overseas. Does anyone do this? I've never heard anyone mention it before.. I'm a little nervous because I have a tendency to hold up lines and cause scenes by mistake. I would like to avoid this.

I just returned from Germany, I brought gifts for the whole family in Germany. I did not declare the gifts (no food item) only clothes, shoes, cosmetics and books. You do not need to register your private belongings (cell phone, laptop, ipod etc) to anybody. You take them out and place them on the tray to go through the scanner though when you put them in your Carry On. Returning to the US, you do have to write down everything you acquire outside of USA, the items and the dollar amount. If the Custom officers ask you to Declare after they check your Custom form then you have to follow him/her to the Declare counter (do not bring plants, food, meat, fresh fruit) but dried fruit and chocolate is OK. Hope it helps. Relax and enjoy your trip. Bon Voyage

Packing list for my trip to Germany

Packing list for my trip to Germany?
I am taking a college-oriented trip to Frankfurt, Germany for a few weeks in May and I need to make a list of things I need to buy/pack in order to maximize the awesome of the trip. Any input would be appreciated! In terms of clothes, I assume jeans and casual stuff is cool for most places, but I'll also have a decent amount of business casual paraphernalia like khakis and sweaters/button down shirts to bring along. I intend on bringing my laptop (cheap international Skype calls) and Droid (no phone service but useful apps) as well.

Germany is very casual stretching to grunge-casual. What you mentioned would be perfect. Frankfurt is geographically central in Germany so May shouldn't be too cold but definitely bring something warm for evenings and night. The month of May in Frankfurt has average temps of 66F high, 47F low. A light coat and sweaters and a hoodie would be good. Most important are good comfortable walking shoes. Europeans walk a lot and so will you

Yes, you can connect the Xbox 360 to the laptop via the Ethernet port. Then enable Internet Connection Sharing and "bridge" the internet connection. You are now sharing the VPN connection. If you find that you need to open up NAT, read Microsoft's article about that here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979000

Army wife moving to germany in july, need to know how much luggage your allowed on international flights

Army wife moving to germany in july, need to know how much luggage your allowed on international flights?
Ok so my fiance graduates AIT in june and then we are getting married about a week later and then he has to move to germany and take all of our paperwork and send for me but i need to know how much luggage you can take on a plane internationally, like 3 luggages, and 2 carryons or what? Cause they are providing everything for us over there but i have to pack, my clothes, laptop, cd's, dvd's, shoes, etc!!! So if anybody could help i would greatly appreciate it!!!

2 luggages that are 70 lbs maximum each. 1 carryon, maximum of 12 lbs. 1 purse.
2 :
Every airline is different. Call the airline you are going to use and ask them what they allow. I would wait as close to the date as possible as sometimes they change their policy. When I went to China we wre allowed to check two bags of no more than 50 lbs each and one carry-on. I flew United.
3 :
As far as I remembered, you are allowed to bring 2 carryons and 2 baggages (with each not more than ... kgs). Your carryons can include 1 small baggage/bag/purse + laptop + a musical instrument (I once travelled with 3 carryons and they allowed me: 1 backpack+1 laptop+violin). I believe there are lots of changes right now for the maximum weight of the baggages because they want to cut the cost of the oil that they use. Hope it helps thoguh ;) and by the way, which airline company are you using? Every companies have their own policy reagrding the baggage and stuffs like that

Would it be easy for someone pretend to be in a different country

Would it be easy for someone pretend to be in a different country?
Someone has been writing to me saying they are from a specific country (Germany) The ip address check out as being German -- BUT they use a German email company and a laptop. Could they be in the UK pretending to be in Germany? And how easy would it be for them to do that???
Internet - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Anyone with moderate to advanced computer skills could likely bounce an email enough so it would appear from somewhere else. It's possible that by viewing the complete email headers you could better know the origin, but even then it could be masked.
2 :
Actually, it would be very difficult because of the way IP addresses are assigned. They would have to have a permanent IP address, and that's hard to do when you connect in different places (or even to different networks). However, if they use broadband it is possible to get a GPS location on them.
3 :
For the email, this is no problem... You can signup for a Yahoo Mail and say you are in UK and will get your mail as whatever@yahoo.co.uk As for the IP, there are some applications that hide your real IP and provide you with another virtual one They are known as IP Hiders and they work in a Proxy Technique... About whether its possible to choose an IP of a specific country, don't know of any application that does it, but if there is applications that change your physical IP to a Virtual IP, then probably there is an application that would provide you with the feature of choosing the country you want...

yup its actually pretty simple I live in The Netherlands but EVERYbody thinks I live in USA

Studying Abroad in Germany, cost for a semester

Studying Abroad in Germany, cost for a semester?
I'm planning on studying abroad in Germany when I get to college for a full semester, maybe longer but as of now I'm keeping it at about 3 months. I'm starting to plan everything out now just to have an idea of things that I'll need and cost. (Mind you I still have at least 3 years to get everything together) From anyone who has studied abroad or has been to Germany, could you help me out with: -How much money I should have for meals/grocery shopping -Extra spending money -What type of converters I should get (hair drier, straightener, cell phone, laptop) -Average cost traveling with schools Thanks so much!!
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

Semesters in Germany are (roughly) from September to February, and March to July. Groceries and food in Germany are generally cheap, although living in bigger or more affluent cities like Munich can raise the cost. I live in Munich, and have been able to survive with €50 a month in groceries. It depends how much you like to cook, and where you choose to shop. Extra spending money is directly tied to the size of your city. Small towns are inherently cheaper, but you will want to travel to Munich and Berlin. There are lots of things to do in those places, but lots of them are free or reduced for Students, and have reduced prices on Sundays. For your first time in Germany, I would budget €100 a month. There is lots to experience. For all my US electronics (laptop, iPod dock), I use a single POWER converter for European plugs (220-110), and then use a power strip (5 outlets) that I brought from the US. Works well for me, because I only have a few things plugged in, and they are next to each other. If you want mobility, bring more :-) A semester abroad is typically covered in your tuition for your home school. You can also try to find a program outside your school which is cheaper (maybe $8k for a semester), but make sure that credits earned will transfer. Most programs cover the cost of ausflüge (trips/excursions within the lesson plan), but not incidentals or food. Good to have €20 on hand any time you travel for the day. And with Germany being on the boarder to SO MANY fun countries, you might want to do extra trips outside of your program.
2 :
Hi there! I am currently studying abroad in England, so if you would like to ask me any questions about the cost of studying abroad for trips to different places, I can give you a good idea about how much that is going to cost! I don't know specifics about Germany, but I can give you an overall idea of how much trips are going to cost. I also have a blog documenting my travels. So far I have been to London, various other cities in England, Scotland, and Spain. I'm going to Stonehenge this weekend and then Ireland the next. Germany, Prague, and Italy to come! It's a great experience and I would love to talk further if you are interested

Germany World cup 2006 computer game?
Okay so i just found a germany world cup 2006 computer game in my closet, and i started to play it and everything was fine until i started the match. The screen went as if it was "negative" like if i was playing in a stadium during the day, my screen would be like orange and white and colours like that. The players were completely white and you couldnt see them, then when the players started to move, it was white but you could see their shadows on the field (if that makes sense) my screen is perfectly fine cause im playing it on a brand new laptop, i dont know what to do?! help :(

Traveling to Germany soon. Never been there before

Traveling to Germany soon. Never been there before?
Alright so I'm heading to Germany, I'll be flying into Hamburg. I've never been there before, and I've never been to Europe. I am very excited to go, and I will be there for two weeks. Here are some questions - feel free to add any opinions too! 1. What should I pack for clothing? 2. How long is the flight over the ocean ( From the time I leave US hard land until I reach Europe hard land 3. I don't like flying over oceans, what movies should I pack for my laptop 4. Will my US visa card work there? and 5. If I want to power my laptop and cellphone what plug do I need and where do I get it? Add any additional information you may have to this for traveling out of the country to Europe. Yes, I will drive on the Autobahn too I plan on renting an Audi out there to have some fun in!

1 :
1. if your from the Norther U.S. State the weather is similar , so depending when you are going you will pack as you are in the U.S. 2. Again depending when your leaving from - if its from New York it should take approx 7 hours, but that depends if it is a layover or direct flight. 3. Try getting some sleep as there is a time difference instead of watching movies. 4. You will need a valid passport - I think the Visa will only cause confussion and hold you up. 5. Yes you will need special plugs, you can usually buy them at a luggage store.
2 :
1. The weather in the Northern part of Germany in autumn or early winter is hard to predict. Be prepared for cloudy days with scattered showers or stormy, rainy days and temperatures of 40 to 50°F. 2. The flight duration over the ocean depends on your departure point and will range from 5h 15m from Massachusetts to 7h 15m from Florida. 3. The ones you like most or new ones you haven't seen yet. 4. VISA cards are accepted mostly, you are able to get cash at ATM machines, too. 5. Usually new chargers have multiple voltage and operate under 100-240V/50-60Hz. All you need is a plug adapter for the European standard sockets( two round pins). 6. For renting a car I must disappoint you; a 17-year-old cannot hire cars in Germany. The minimum age is 18 years and that allows a hire of a compact class vehicle only (Mercedes A-type, BMW 1, VW Golf). To hire a mid-size/premium class vehicle you must be at least 21 years old and for the luxury class at least 25 years with three years of driving experience. Hello, The rule is one carryon and one personal item. Your purse would count as the personal item and the laptop bag would be your second one. If you have an additional bag, especially for an international flight, they will probably make you check it. If you can combine your purse and computer bag or your purse and small suitcase you will have no problems. Donna

I going to England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liectenstein, Greece and Ill need plug adapters. just not sure for which countries, or for all, or do some use the same one? will I have to buy a different one for every country? ill basically be using it for camera, iPod, laptop, phone possibly, hair dryer, hair straightner, those sorts of things. any examples and links would be great thanks!

For England you will not only need an adapter but the current is different. The US is 110 volts, in England it is 240volts so make sure your converter actually changes the current as well. It's a bit misleading because these websites call them adapters and they only basically change a 2 pin plug to a 3 pin plug but the current stays the same. check this site out. http://www.enjoy-europe.com/hte/chap11/electric.htm
2 :
Go to best buy or radio shack and they will have a plug adapter for you. This will allow you to change the adapter to w/e country you are in. However make sure....you appliances can handle the watts. If not then it will get fried and that is not a good thing. The only thing i am worried about is the hair dryer. Are you staying in a hotel maybe they will have one for you.
