What will I need in order to charge my laptop in Germany? My laptop is a Dell and it's designed for U.S outlet
Do I need to get a specific adapter and converter? I don't want my laptop to fry! I know theres a voltage it can't pass or something like that.

Notebooks are designed to work on all voltage scale, so all you need is to get yourself a travel adapter which can support the German power socket format. If you are still not sure, you can check the power brick that came with your Dell. It should have something like 'Input: 110-240V~' written somewhere on the label, or just give the Dell Support Line a call. See the link below.

You will need a power converter with plugins. Europe is on 220 and we of course on 120 v. I would imagine that they make a laptop charging adapter for the European market - don't know the cost. Could be cheaper to go to a department store (Radio Shack) and get the power transformer and plugins. All of Europe is on 220v - however the style of the plugs changes from country to country.

If you are going to be on a US military base you should not have to worry as from what I have heard the run 110V AC. If not make a trip to a luggage or travel store and you can purchase a power converter for Europe and Germany. Just make sure that the converter can handle the current required for your lap top.

All recent laptops have power supplies that are good from 100V to 240V, both 50 and 60Hz. So, all you need then is the plug pin converter from the USA flat to the European round pins. ~

Look on your laptop's power adapter and see if the maximum and minimum voltage range include Germany's voltage, 210-230 volts. If it does, and the plug is in the right shape, then you're in luck. Plug it in and it should charge. If it's not rated for germany, or the plug is not the right shape, go to your nearest electronic store (Sharper Image is a great one, I don't know if they have stores in Germany) and get a 220 to 120 volt converter. If the numbers are off by about ten, you'll live. Make sure it has a third prong. (Or, ask for a Germany power to US power converter) They should be able to help you. Hope this works, Cheese Lover Bob

Heinz has it right. It's not just the voltage but the cycles as well. Your power adapter should be rated 110V-240V and 50 60 cycles. You should, as he indicated, be fine with a plug converter. they are pretty inexpensive. Enjoy your trip I lived there for 3 years and Loved it
