Anyone in Europe had any positive/negative experience buying Dell computers from AAFES (military) online

Anyone in Europe had any positive/negative experience buying Dell computers from AAFES (military) online?
I am thinking of buying my wife a Dell laptop and myself a Dell desktop to use while working as a military contractor here in Germany. Are the laptops dual voltage like the desktops?

I would contact Dell on their website and tell them that you need a european power supply/converter for use in Germany. I think they will be more than happy to assist you

ask the supplier.......you risk getting a wrong answer here!!

call sony

First check with Sony directly to see if it will work. My sister lives in Germany (by choice, not military) and purchases her laptops in the US (Dell) and uses them in Germany with no problems. Of couse she uses a converter
4 :
depends on if your laptop has a battery
5 :
It will be in the spec, but most Sony are dual voltage (as in 110 up to 250) - its voltage, not 'w' as you note that is important. Otherwise, but it in Germany?
6 :
Laptop works with its own voltage .. sourced from its battery. The power cord and adaptor works between 100 to 240 volts. So you would not have any problems there. I use HP/Presario that was bought in the US. But the power plug may not be suitable for your use, so you may have to get a power plug adaptor.

The Sony Viao will come with a power brick that should support 110-240v input (which means it will support and convert european voltage), however, you will need a plug adapter. To be on the safe side, you might want an adapter that converts voltage because I can't promise that the laptop will come with a brick that supports 220v. These will be about $20 more though.

If it was a desktop then it should have dual voltage, but I have never seen a laptop with dual voltage... Odds are you can order a charger for the laptop in both 220 and 110Volt Aside from having two chargers you can also buy 110v to 220v adaptors

I just came across a site that sends you a laptop for free! I'm ordering mine right now, it's a Sony VAIO and it looks really hot

Do I need a power converter for my Macbook 2008 power brick

Do I need a power converter for my Macbook 2008 power brick?
I have a Macbook 2008 and I want to bring my laptop with me to Germany (From Canada) but I'm not sure if I need a converter. I heard that the Apple power brick (Magsafe) has one already built in but I will still need an adapter.

You'll need either the Apple World Travel Kit plug for continental Europe or any standard plug converter for the 3-prong US to continental Europe plug. The PSU takes care of the 120/240 conversion. You only need the plug

Do Customs Check Laptops in Venice (VCE) Airport

Do Customs Check Laptops in Venice (VCE) Airport?
Has anyone who has been to venice experienced laptop checks? I'm currently in Germany, I will then be travelling to italy by train and flying through venice to the carribean. I currently have some music and movies that i downloaded and my operating system is not original either. I don't have porn or anything like that. I'm just asking because I got checked in Dubai but I managed to trick them so they didn't give me any fine. Please advise about laptop checks in Venice Thanks Dean

You were unlucky to have been singled out in Dubai, I think you should be ok, generally laptops are scanned to check they are not false shells with things hidden inside
